This is interesting. However, how can you identify the top 10 players of this generation?
Just to let you know, there are only a few active veteran players and those with whom I have contact with are either in the US or no longer interested in playing. But just to let you know here are their names:
TOP ACTIVE PLAYERS: (alphabetical order)
1. Bernie dela Paz (Strategist)
2. Catalino "SirCat" Enriquez (Strategist)
3. Eric Gan (Strategist)
4. Joel Navarro (Strategist)
5. Rene Malindog (Strategist)
It's been quite some time since Senior Strategist Noel Basilio opened this topic back in 2011. I was not even active in Salpakan then and was just beginning to revive it thru the FB group now known as PhilGGO or Philippine Game of the Generals Organization.
Somehow this veteran vs top players materialized in February, 2016 when SS Noel Basilio a.k.a. Leo Oilisab went back and played in Ronquillo St., Sta. Cruz. I was there together with Joel Navarro. and Rene Malindog, the younger batch of the veterans.
Top players were led by Matt (a.k.a. Mickey Mouse), Eugenio "estranghero" Senar, Ronald Mirani, Jan Fer Mangahas among others numbering about 15 players.
However, this event might not happen again because most of the top veterans are no longer active with the exception of Joel, Rene, Bernie dela Paz, Noel Basilio (who is in USA). Furthermore, age may and lack of play may have put rust on the former skills although I can say that the experience we had is more than enough to compensate against the top GG players today.
The likes of Renato "Mao" Mauricio who was a cool killer of GG players in his prime time, Hermie Martinez, Caesar Sanchez (who held his ground using the "Pandora's Box formation) will still give enough challenge to any GG player. Benjie Catajoy held his ground when veterans played and became champion in the QC Group tournament.
Will this still happen? Noel can ask the other veterans if ever.
