Private = used to attack suspected strong pieces, coincidentally spliting with same or hitting a spy. Should the private lose to a strong piece, the enemy will not know what he eliminated and may be psyched an illusion of winning. Should the private lose to a low rank, the enemy might become hesitant to attack because a strong piece might be adjacent to that private.
Middle officials = used to decoy as strong pieces by intentionally skewing between suspected weak pieces and challenging as if you are a strong piece. Should you eliminate any, the enemy will be psyche into a misguided assumption of your formation. Should it split with the opponent's, you will acquire a partial visualization of his potential formation. Should it lose to another, the enemy will not know what you lost and might become hesitant to challenge the adjacent pieces. Should it lose to a strong piece, you will be able to visualize the potential placement of the adjacent pieces and maneuver your own to an advantage.
Generals and Spies = used to decoy as weak pieces by feinting weakness and taking cover but NEVER out of diagonal reach and guard against actual enemy incursions. Should these split with the opponent's, you will acquire a partial visualizatiuon of his formation. The generals may be supported by privates or spies. Conversely, the spies and privates may be supported by generals.
